Solo VIP - Diabetes monitoring for people with visual impairments
Solo Visually Impaired Program
Encompasses four areas of focus:
- Product
- Support
- Training
- Coverage
Four primary Goals:
1. Provide people with visual impairment a product that will enable them to test independently and safely
2. Ensure people with visual impairment have the same access to customer support as people without visual impairment
3. Ensure people with visual impairment have same access to product training, such as testing techniques, as people
without visual impairment
4. Ensure people with visual impairment are afforded the same opportunity to accessible products through their insurance
coverage as people without visual impairment.
How we plan on meeting our goals:
- Provide the Solo V2 to people with visual impairment, supplied through a preferred HME supplier who has demonstrated a long standing track record of putting the patient’s needs first
- Teach the Solo VIP customer service training program to HME suppliers´ customer service teams so they can effectively support people with visual impairment over the phone just as they would a person without visual impairment
- Solo VIP customer service training program will be with the assistance of the visually impaired
- The Solo VIP training program is offered to HME suppliers that support Solo VIP and are dedicated to the program’s objectives
- Offer testing tips and techniques such as the Solo Technique to help standardize and simplify the process of teaching a person with visual impairment how to test their blood sugar
- Work with Managed Care Organizations to ensure that an accessible blood glucose meter is not only on every insurance formulary but has the lowest co-pay available.
